In Maryland’s first full fiscal year of mobile sports betting, more than $60 million in tax revenue was generated, with over 90% of bets placed via mobile platforms. This revenue contributes to the “Blueprint for Maryland’s Future”, a plan to enhance the State’s education systems. Currently, no mobile sports betting revenue directly provides monetary support towards the Maryland problem gambling fund. Advocates argue for a dedicated revenue percentage to address gambling disorders, noting that current funds are insufficient to counterbalance the gambling industry’s mobile sports betting advertising influence. Proposals to allocate 1% of sports betting revenue for this cause have faced legislative challenges, and the Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling, along with its stakeholders continue to push for increased support and funding.
