Summary:​
For many years, the clinical mythology was that there was little domestic or intimate partner violence associated with problem gambling. However, current research has accumulated to disprove that myth. This webinar will summarize the evidence regarding the incidence of abuse and violence associated with problem gambling, consider data on who is likely to be a recipient or perpetrator of this violence, discuss the triggers for this violence and address treatment strategies.

Participants should be able to:

  • Participants will be able to identify the prevalence of domestic, intimate partner violence and child abuse related to problem gambling.
  • Participants will be able to define the likelihood of a person with a gambling disorder and their spouse/partner being a recipient or perpetrator of relationship violence.
  • Participants will gain awareness of triggers for violence and high risk situations for violence when addressing problem gambling
  • Participants will be able to formulate effective strategies for addressing relationship violence when working with the issue of problem gambling.
