The Center is offering two grant opportunities for fiscal year 2025. Maryland colleges, universities, local government, and community organizations are eligible to apply. The main goals of the grants are to: educate communities on the risks of gambling and resources for help, integrate problem gambling prevention strategies into the current work of the school or organization, and increase the reach of the Center to serve populations at greater risk of problem gambling.
Maryland Colleges and Universities Underage and Problem Gambling Prevention Grant
The purpose of this grant is to raise awareness and prevent underage and problem gambling among young adults in Maryland. Due to the expansion of gambling through mobile sports betting, easy access has contributed to an increase in problem gambling among young adults. The Center is receiving more calls and texts to the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline from young adults ages 18-24 and 25-34. From 2020 to 2023, calls from 18-24 year olds increased from 11 to 74 and calls from 25-34 year olds increased from 45 to 106 (Maryland Helpline data). The grant implementation period is July 1, 2024 – December 31, 2025. Grant amounts are between $5,000-$15,000. The deadline to apply is November 22, 2024.

Special Populations Grants for Those At-Risk of Problem Gambling
The purpose of this grant is to raise awareness and prevent problem gambling among the individuals and communities served by Maryland organizations serving those at-risk of problem gambling. Those at-risk of problem gambling include populations found to be at greater risk in National and Maryland research including: males, minorities, those with low-income, veterans, those with mental health and/or substance use disorders, youth, etc. The grant implementation period is July 1, 2024-December 31, 2025. Grant amounts are between $3,000-$10,000. The deadline to apply is November 22, 2024.
