Summary:
This training will address ethical issues from clinical, public health, and gambling industry perspectives. The ethical standards of the International Problem Gambling and Gaming Certification Organization will be reviewed, and case examples used to address specific issues such as client rights, confidentiality, duty to war, counselor competencies and scope of practice. Ethical issues around harm reduction, limited gambling and public health approaches will be considered. Finally, ethical issues involved in “responsible gambling” practices will be considered from individual as well as gambling industry perspectives.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify at least 2 gambling disorder specific issues involved in duty to warn.
- Participants will be able to describe ethical procedures to inform clients of their rights as well as limitations on confidentiality.
- Participants will be able to describe at least 2 issues to be considered around harm reduction strategies to address problem gambling.
- Participants will be able to identify at least 2 ethical gambling principles that apply to the gambling industry and responsible gambling practices.
