Summary:
In recent years, the practice of mindfulness has been integrated more frequently in substance use disorders and mental health programs. Mindfulness aims to increase one’s awareness that arises from paying attention, on purpose, moment by moment, with compassion, and without judgment. Learn how to use mindfulness-based strategies to help problem gamblers become more aware of triggers and urges to gamble and respond differently to their experience.
Learning Objectives:
- Define mindfulness and learn how the practice of mindfulness can benefit problem gamblers.
- Define what it means to be on auto pilot and identify how it can lead to unintentional recurrence of gambling behaviors.
- Identify two mindfulness-based techniques that can be used to avoid gambling relapse and/or recurrence.
