Summary:
Nationally gambling expansion is on the rise, and Maryland is no exception. Data found in National and Maryland research indicates those with lower income and/or minority populations are at greater risk of gambling problematically. This training is designed specifically for those who work within the Maryland Department of Human Services and local Departments of Social Services to learn the basics about gambling disorder to better serve their populations. The Center hopes to collaborate with the attendees to integrate gambling prevention programming at DHS and DSS.
Learning Objectives:
  • Review current research and statistics to identify who is impacted, at-risk of problems and the signs of a gambling disorder incorporating DSM-5 Criteria.
  • Start the conversation by integrating evidenced based gambling screening tools into your practice, with tips for brief intervention and referral resources for recovery.
  • Discuss prevention programming that has been effective in other communities and ways to integrate prevention strategies into departments of human and social services.
