Summary:
While it was often common for people to combine substances and behaviors to increase their high, many people are finding it more difficult to sustain their recovery because their addictions and behaviors are becoming more ubiquitous. Gambling apps are on phones and in restaurants, and slot machines are at some gas stations. Marijuana is becoming legalized throughout the country, and it can feel as though social media and advertisements are continuously pushing everything but recovery. For some people, addiction can feel like a game of Whac-A-Mole, especially if they are struggling with co-occurring addictions. After this training, participants will be able to implement different treatment strategies for complicated co-occurring addictions and compulsive behaviors.
Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify the 5 components to SMART goals.
  2. Decipher between a therapist’s goals and a client’s goals based on the Stages of Change model.
  3. Use the 3 Circle method to identify recovery behaviors.
  4. Support a client in analyzing cognitive distortions using CBT.
  5. Explain Binaural Beats, mindfulness meditation, and several grounding techniques.
  6. Provide multiple tools to their clients for a variety of addictions and compulsive behaviors.
