Summary:
Evidenced-based gambling screening tools help identify the need for additional assessment; however limited knowledge of the harms associated with gambling and the resources available for recovery may prohibit continuing the conversation beyond initial entry into treatment. Assessment is an ongoing process for the helping professional and can be considered a way of building rapport and demonstrate empathy. Discover the importance of integrating questions related to gambling into a full biopsychosocial assessment and ways to continue to have the conversation.
Learning Objectives:
  • Start the conversation by integrating evidenced-based gambling screening tools into your practice, with tips for brief intervention and referral resources for recovery.
  • Considerations for incorporating gambling related questions within a biopsychosocial assessment, considering DSM criteria for formal diagnosis.
  • Ideas for including discussions about gambling into your practice as a means of ongoing assessment and treatment planning.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are provided for attendance on live webinar presentations; no CEUs are awarded for recording views.
