Summary:
Research has shown that traumatic brain injury, aka TBI, is another risk factor for developing problem gambling. This risk factor is not as common as other risk factors for developing problem gambling. Nevertheless, it is imperative to assess clients for TBI during the initial intake assessment. Providers need to develop a comprehensive individualized treatment plan for their clients highlighting preventive strategies to reduce the probability of developing a problem with gambling. The focus of treatment needs to address this risk factor early to prevent it from becoming a problem down the road.
